Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Hears From Over 100 Grant Applicants

Funds for Veterans' Assistance Advisory Committee

The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) Advisory Committee met in January 2020 to hear grant funding proposals from more than 100 organizations. As part of their proposal, each organization described the services they provide to veterans and how many veterans they hope to serve. Eligible applicants are comprised of non-profits or government agencies. Approximately $28.3 million is expected to be available to fund 2020-2021 grants.

Grant applications for 2020-2021 funding were due on October 25, 2019, and are to be awarded at the May 2020 Texas Veterans Commission meeting. Then each grant project begins July 1, 2020.

Since 2009, the Texas Veterans Commission has awarded $137 million in grant funding serving 311,000 Texas veterans and their families.

Funding for these grants is generated primarily through the Texas Lottery Commission’s scratch-off ticket designated “Supporting Texas Veterans.” Other sources of funding for the grants include individual donation options on the following licenses: drivers’, handgun, hunting and fishing, and vehicle registrations.
