AUSTIN, TX – On June 26, 2024, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) presented its annual Veteran Employer of the Year awards to three Dallas area businesses. TVC Commissioner and Marine Corps veteran Chuck Wright gave the awards that recognize businesses and organizations which demonstrate a strong commitment to employing veterans and leading effective veteran employment initiatives.
TVC Business Veteran Employer of the Year awards were presented to:
Medium Government Entity of the Year:
North Texas Municipal Water District, 501 East Brown Street Wylie, Texas
- Workforce of 895 with 8% veterans and 3% veteran new hires.
- 6% of their executive leadership team are veterans.
- Hired a veteran to serve in a newly created position of talent acquisition specialist.
- Provides wholesale water, wastewater and solid waste management services to more than two million people in North Texas.
Medium Employer of the Year:
Shadow Systems, LLC, 1001 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, Texas
- Workforce of 103 with 24.3% veterans and 22.5% veteran new hires.
- Partners with TVC to ensure that every transitioning veteran is given an overview of benefits that they are entitled to, as well as benefits that Shadow offers.
- Designs and manufactures premium firearms and parts.
Small Government Entity of the Year
Dallas College – Military Connected Services Dept., 4849 W Illinois Ave., Dallas, Texas
- Workforce of nine with 78% veterans and 100% veteran new hires.
- Recruiters regularly attend in-person and virtual veteran hiring events.
- Dallas College is one of the largest community colleges in Texas and has partnerships with local businesses. Its Military Connected Services Department provides services for the unique needs of military-connected students and creates a supportive environment.
