The success of a recent hiring fair held April 13, 2023 at Fort Bliss in El Paso has Hire G.I., a national recruitment and job placement company for transitioning military and veterans, ready to return. The event attracted over 210 attendees and more than 30 employers and vendors.

To hold the event, Hire G.I. Events Coordinator Jasmine McAdams contacted Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Employment Services El Paso team for assistance and to help promote event. The TVC Employment District Supervisor, Veterans Career Advisors (VCAs) Veterans Employers Liaisons (VELs) all worked at the event to help receive veterans, transitioning service members and employers.

“Over 210 attendees flooded the event and sought out employers while discussing their employment needs and concerns,” said Scott Graves, TVC VCA and Army veteran. “Many job seeking candidates exchanged information with vendors with the intent of following up on career positions of interest.”

After job seekers arrived at the event site, Centennial Banquet and Conference Center on Fort Bliss, they signed in and entered the hall with employers and vendors and including TVC.

Other the employers at the event included SOS International, an international medical and travel security risk services company, which offered a wide array of positions from medical workers and doctors to firefighters and emergency medical technicians, and more. Also at the event were healthcare organizations and the Carrollton and El Paso Police Departments which explained the requirements to enter their training academies.

Veterans visiting with TVC about its available jobs or jobs with other state agencies took the next step. They were directed to the Workforce Solutions Borderplex offices on Fort Bliss for proper triaging to determine if they were transitioning military or veterans and if they had any disabilities other qualifying barriers to employment that made them eligible for the Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) Program.

The hiring fair also offered the opportunity for TVC VELs to extend their reach into the employer community by meeting and connecting with employers and vendors attending the event.

“Because of the excellent levels of interest demonstrated by the veterans and transitioning service members in attendance as well as the support received from the Texas Veterans Commission, Hire G.I.’s McAdams suggested that they would return to Fort Bliss for a follow-up event” said Graves.
