A Message from the Governor in honor of Armed Forces Day May 16, 2015

The men and women of the U.S. armed forces serve this nation with great pride and patriotism. Their dedication preserves each American’s unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

It has been said many times before, but is as true today as ever: Freedom is not free. In times of war and times of peace, the men and women of the U.S. armed forces have courageously faced great dangers and made tremendous sacrifices. America’s armed forces have tirelessly upheld the ideals of our country — whether wading ashore at Normandy over half a century ago, enduring intense training regimens on our bases at home and abroad during peacetime, or serving in recent engagements in the Middle East.

With common bonds of selflessness and bravery, our veterans are a credit to our nation and our state. Their legacy of courage and conviction endures in the form of our most precious gift: freedom.

At this very hour, our armed forces stand in harm’s way, serving our nation and the cause of liberty for all mankind. On behalf of all Texans, 1 extend sincere thanks to the men and women of our nation’s military for their service and sacrifices.

First Lady Cecilia Abbott joins me in sending best wishes on this day.

Greg Abbott
