A Day of Recognition and Service for Women Veterans on June 3

Women veterans are invited to join in a recognition and service event which will honor their service and offers the opportunity to help other veterans, active military and first responders. The event, A Day of Recognition and Service, is hosted by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Women Veterans Program and Operation Gratitude on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in San Antonio.

The event begins with a recognition ceremony. Refreshments and brunch will be available to enjoy courtesy of Starbucks. Participants will receive thank you gift packages including letters of appreciation and more. Additionally, participants will receive a special canvas tote bag made possible by the Daughters of the American Revolution with custom gifts inside.

“After a warm welcome, there will be multiple engaging activities for attendees, plus just enjoying some camaraderie,” said Dr. Krystle Matthews, Texas Veterans Commission Women Veterans Program Director and Army veteran. “We are thanking them for their service and giving them an avenue to continue to serve.”

Part of the opportunity to continue to serve will be assembling care packages for veterans, active military and first responders. The goal is to assemble 200 packages which include letters of appreciation, paracord lanyards, learn how to knit scarves and more. Additionally, participants may make Battalion Buddy stuffed animals for children of veterans, active duty & first responders.

“Attendees can participate at their comfort level; or just hang out with other women veterans in the canteen area,” said Matthews.
