Upon retirement I reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR). Duties involved; Marine environmental protection, and port safety and security. Responded to maritime events, including oil spills, marine transportation events and natural/terrorist events. Prior to advancing to LCDR, I reached the enlisted rank of E-6, First Class Health Services Technician and Laboratory Technician. Duties included; performed advanced laboratory procedures, including, blood chemistry, blood counts (manual differentials), microbiology, parasitology and urinalysis. Completed minor surgical techniques, radiographic procedures, dispensed pharmaceuticals and served as a chair-side dental technician. Coordinator of the CG Occupational Medical Surveillance and Evaluation Program (OMSEP), a physical examination program established to monitor the health of Coast Guard personnel working in jobs designated as having high health risk potential to chemical or physical agents. Facilitator and coordinator for the Medical Disability Board at CG Headquarters from 1991-1994
