Catherine Baron joined the Texas Veterans Commission in 2026 as General Counsel. In this role, she serves as chief legal officer and advises the commissioners, executive staff, and agency in relevant legal matters. Originally from small-town Vermont, Catherine has a BA in Art and Visual Culture from Bates College and both studied and lived abroad in Christchurch, New Zealand. She attended American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., where she was a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society.
Upon graduation, she moved to central Texas to practice civil litigation with compassion, competence, and integrity. Seeking to help families navigate the legal landscape, she opened her own family law firm in 2015, focusing on collaborative law. In 2020, she joined the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, where she represented the agency in administrative hearings.
Catherine is delighted for the opportunity to serve veterans through her work at TVC. Both her grandfathers were WWII Army veterans who served in the USA, across northern Africa, and in Europe. Her grandfather on her father’s side was in the Army JAG Corps, and her legal position with the TVC allows her to continue that tradition in her own way.
In her free time, Catherine enjoys travelling, quiet days with family, and various crafting hobbies.
