TVC Rural Veterans Career Advisor and Army veteran Gerardo “Jerry” Garza participated in the Texas Conference for Employers – Lower Rio Grande Valley. The event was organized by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and held in Mission in late February. At the conference, Garza informed employers of the advantages of hiring veterans. Additionally, he participated in presenting We Hire VETS awards to the City of Harlingen and Sharyland Water Company. City of Harlingen and Sharyland Water Company were recognized for having veterans comprising of more than 10% of their staff.
A TVC team participated in Military Retiree Appreciation Day 2025 hosted by Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland in March. The in-person event provided information on veterans benefits and services from federal, state, local government and community organizations.
“Staff engaged with eligible veterans, transitioning service members, and spouses” said Eriko Perez, TVC Employment Services South Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Navy veteran. “They provided valuable information about TVC Employment Services, ensuring attendees were aware of the essential resources and support available to them to assist in their career transitions and professional development.”
