Partnering to bring state services to veterans wherever they are

Texas veterans have earned a wide array of benefits and services. There’s disability compensation, health care, education, access to special land sales and home loans, burials, veteran owned business perks, job search assistance, clinical counseling, housing, and more. So that veterans know about the benefits and services they’ve earned and how to connect with them, the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) and TVC work together in ways from outreach events and call centers to direct assistance for residents of State Veterans Homes.

In fiscal year 2024-2025, more than 380 claims were submitted to the VA from veteran home residents. This is the result of the collaboration of TVC Claims Benefits Advisors and VLB Veterans Home teams. This resulted in a combined total of more than $3.6 million in payments to those residents

Also in 2025, VLB and TVC partnered to produce veteran resources expos in Edinburg, Canyon and this fall, the VLB shared its space at the State Fair with TVC. For the next event, stay tuned to the TVC calendar, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

The Texas Veterans Call Center can be reached at 1-800-252-VETS (8387) to speak to a representative about benefits and services available. In fiscal year 2024-2025, the call center answered over 54,500 calls. Of that approximately 20,000 were about TVC services, the majority of which regarded claims assistance.

The Texas VLB recognized TVC Claims Director Sal Castillo with a VLB challenge coin for his collaborative work at the TVC Commission meeting on Nov, 13, 2025. Additionally, the VLB recognized outgoing Commissioner Mary Dale with a challenge coin for her partnership over her years of service.
