Employment Services takes Off-Base Transition Training (OBTT) on the road

TVC’s West Texas Veterans Employment Services (VES) team’s Off-Base Transition Training (OBTT) Road Show is on the go again. After its highly successful debut that attracted hundreds of veterans, the VES team is again bringing this training to veterans in smaller towns and rural areas.

The OBTT program consists of a series of job search skills-oriented workshops developed by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The workshops are designed to assist U.S. military veterans and their spouses in reestablishing themselves in civilian employment after separating from the military or serving in the National Guard and Reserves.  OBTT workshops are regularly held in many urban areas around the country.

“We wanted to bring the highly effective OBTT classes out of the big city to smaller towns and more rural areas where there are significant concentrations of veterans that might not otherwise receive the training,” said VES West Texas District Manager and Air Force veteran Trey Hubbard.

OBTT’s goal is to prepare unemployed veterans and their spouses to enter meaningful employment on a long-term basis. The training offers four high-quality workshops covering creating resumes, job fair strategies and networking, how to perform proper introductions with employers, and interview skills.

The West Texas District of Veterans Employment Services worked with DOL and its contractor SERCO to organize the OBTT workshops and help bring presentations to smaller communities.

“Special thanks to Texas Veterans Network powered by Combined Arms team of Megan Heil, Krystle Kaszuba, and Martha Garza for providing lunch at all six locations,” said Hubbard, “and to TVC Veteran Employer Liason Coach Sherry Byard for being the Project Lead.”

The West Texas OBTT Road Show has the following scheduled stops:

  • October 7 – Amarillo
  • October 9 – Lubbock
  • October 11 – Wichita Falls
  • October 15 – Odessa
  • October 17 – Abilene
  • October 18 – San Angelo
