A veteran walked into the Tomball VA accompanied by her sister. It was clear she was carrying a heavy emotional burden. A proud Army veteran who had served her country with honor, she was now battling overwhelming PTSD symptoms that had begun to consume her life.
Her life had become a daily struggle. She was unemployed, facing substance abuse challenges and feeling trapped in circumstances she desperately wanted to escape. Encouraged by her sister, she sought help and in early September 2025 she met TVC Claims Benefits Advisor and Marine Corp veteran Myra Davenport.
Davenport quickly recognized the signs of crisis and gently asked the right questions to understand the depth of the veteran’s situation.
“With compassion and expertise, she helped her complete the PTSD stressor form and immediately filed a claim on her behalf,” said Julio Harros, TVC Claims Southeast District Manager and Navy veteran.
Aware of the urgency and severity of the veteran’s circumstances, Davenport submitted the claim on Sept. 8, 2025 under financial hardship to ensure it received expedited processing.
“Although she was receiving treatment through VA Health Care, she had no idea about all the service-connected disability compensation that she was also eligible for,” said Harros.
The claim was approved by the VA in later that month. It included a 100% disability rating for PTSD with a monthly compensation of more than $3,831; plus, a retro payment of $19,000 dating back to April 2025 when the veteran submitted an intent to file a claim.
The claims award was a life-changing moment for her that she described as “the first light she had seen in a long time.”
When she returned to the office to thank Davenport, she expressed gratitude and hope.
“The compensation wasn’t just financial relief; it was a lifeline,” said Davenport. “It meant stability. It meant opportunities for her children. It meant the chance to experience things she once believed were out of reach, like taking her family to the Nutcracker performance in Houston.”
Davenport reports that the veteran is now drug-free, focused, and optimistic about her future. “She shared that, for the first time in years, her possibilities now feel endless.”
“What began as a moment of despair became a story of resilience, empowerment, and new beginnings; all because one person cared enough to guide her through the process,” said Harros.
