The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Department of Texas recently presented its Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialists (DVOP) of the Year Award to TVC Veteran Career Advisor Coach and Army veteran Dennis Aaron. The award was presented to Aaron at the DAV state convention in Kerrville on June 6.
Congratulations Dennis!
“Dennis personifies a heart of service in assisting the veterans, spouses and caregivers he encounters who are experiencing significant barriers to employment,” said Latonja Culpepper, TVC Employment Services North Texas District Supervisor, who nominated Aaron. “He has demonstrated the high standards of leadership, commitment, professionalism, compassion, and teamwork with his peers, partners, and most importantly the veterans he serves.”
Within a year’s time, Aaron created and opened 45 new employment plans for veterans, 16 moved up to job ready and two resulted in employment.
“Dennis provides a lot of information including resume writing and advice, job fairs and classes for interviews,” said one of the veterans he helped.
Aaron’s commitment to assisting veterans goes beyond his Employment Services job. He serves as a coordinator for the Denton County Homeless Veteran Stand Down. Further, he secured over $24,171 in emergency funds for utilities, rental assistance, and vehicle repairs for 20 veteran and dependent families in Denton County.
