Army veteran Larry Clements, pictured above, moved to East Texas from Washington state, leaving everything he had known for the past 10 years. He settled in the Longview area and began looking for employment. As part of his job search, he visited Workforce Solutions Office in Longview and met TVC Rural Veteran Career Advisor and Marine Corps veteran Chuck Foster in July 2025.
Clement clearly had the skills needed; but, lacked job search skills, tools and connections.
Foster and Clements worked together over the next few weeks to improve Clements’ resume and conduct a meaningful job search focused to find the right fit for his skill set.
Foster had a fellow Marine Corps veteran connection in the maintenance department of Gregg County. “He knew Larry’s skills could benefit the local community,” said Katasha Gray, TVC Employment Services North Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Army veteran.

Foster sent Clements’ resume to Gregg County Maintenance Supervisor Jeremy Hughes. After reviewing the resume, Hughes interviewed Clements. “He is exactly the kind of guy I am looking for,” said Hughes. “He has a vast knowledge of construction, electrical, and mechanics which will greatly improve the county and community.”
In September, Clements called Foster to inform him that he had been hired and would be starting his new position as a Maintenance Tech III with Gregg County.
“It was clear Jeremy found the right fit for his open position,” said Foster, “And Larry was extremely pleased and excited to start his new role in his new home.”
