Army veteran Adria Garcia was forced to close her healthy cooking business in Buda and had been unemployed for three months.
“She was facing a challenging chapter in her life. With no job and mounting expenses, she was at risk of financial disaster and possibly becoming homeless,” said TVC Rural Veterans Career Advisor and Army veteran Zac Staley.
In April 2024, Garcia visited the San Marcos Workforce Solutions Center. There the Workforce Solutions staff quickly assessed her and deemed her eligible for TVC Veteran Employment Services. Garcia was then introduced to Staley. During Staley’s initial interview with Garcia, they both agreed that she would be an excellent candidate for an Individual Employment Plan to get her job ready for a training or developmental specialist position. After working together for a month, tailoring her resume, working on interview skills, learning about labor market information and sharpening job search skills, Garcia was job ready.
Garcia visited the Workforce Center every day for two straight weeks, working with Staley, filling out applications and tailoring her resume for each position. This paid off when Staley received word of an opening for a Career Advisor/Training Specialist position. Recognizing that the role was a perfect fit, he immediately forwarded it to Garcia. Without hesitation, she returned to the Workforce Center, and together, she and Staley worked on the application. “Shortly after submitting her application, Adria was called in for an interview, she aced it and was offered the position,” said Staley. Garcia began her new job on July 8, 2024.
“Zac’s level of attention and care demonstrated his genuine commitment to my success and career growth,” said Garcia. “I am now in a position that I absolutely love. I’m grateful for Zac’s guidance throughout this journey”.
