The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) established the Highly Rural Transportation Grant (HRTG) program to help address the lack of transportation resources Veterans face when trying to access medical care. The grant targets Veterans in highly rural counties where travel times are typically longer or arranging transportation to their VA medical appointments or VA-arranged, non-VA appointments may be difficult.

 

Grant Details:

Through the grant, Counties purchase a 2015 Chevrolet 3500, seven passenger, wheel chair accessible van.  All taxes, title, and license fees were paid for through the grant. The county will also receive approximately $10,000 in funding for gasoline, insurance, and any required servicing for the vehicle. The county van will pick up and drop off Veterans from within the county, transport them to the nearest VA approved medical facility to receive care, and return them to a prearranged location in the county.

The following seven counties have been awarded a VA Grant for Transportation of Veterans in Highly Rural Areas as a sub-recipient of TVC totaling $350,000:
