The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) invites citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of veteran services by joining TVC advisory committees. Advisory committee members are volunteers who share their skills and knowledge to help the TVC more effectively achieve its mission of advocating for Texas veterans and improving the quality of life for them and their families.
TVC is seeking applicants for its three advisory committees:
- Comité Asesor de Servicios para Veteranos
- Comité Asesor del Fondo para la Asistencia a los Veteranos
- Comité Asesor de Oficiales de Servicio del Condado de Veteranos
The Veteran Services Advisory Committee (VSAC) helps develop recommendations to improve overall TVC services to veterans, their families, and survivors. TVC provides veteran service priorities to the committee for analysis and feedback.
The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) Advisory Committee provides recommendations on awarding grants to nonprofit organizations and local government entities which provide direct services to veterans and their family members. By working with community stakeholders and veterans’ organizations, committee members ensure that grant resources are supporting veterans’ needs.
The Veterans County Service Officer Advisory Committee develops recommendations to improve the support and training of Veterans County Service Officers (VCSO) across Texas and to increase coordination between VCSO and TVC relating to the statewide coordination of services provided to veterans.
Applications for the advisory committees will be accepted starting June 1, 2024, until Aug. 31, 2024. Committee members will be appointed by the Commission in November 2024.
Each committee membership has four-year terms. Members may be veterans or nonveterans with knowledge and skills in veterans issues and an interest in improving the quality of life for veterans and their families. Those interested may apply at https://tvc.texas.gov/about/advisory-committees/.
