On September 2, 2022, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) presented $7,610,000 in grants to 30 organizations for providing services to approximately 5,100 Central Texas area veterans. The presentation was made by TVC Commissioner and Army veteran Mary Dale in San Marcos at the Hays County Annex, 712 S Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos, Texas.
The FVA Central Texas Region is a multicounty area ranging from Hill and Bosque Counties in the north to Caldwell and Fayette Counties in the south; and San Saba in the west to Leon and Grimes in the east; see map at end of release*
The grant recipients and their services included:
Escuela de música comunitaria Armstrong is accepting a check for $30,000: This Veterans Mental Health Grant will provide veterans in Bastrop, Bell, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties with Peer Support Services.
Williamson County Court at Law #2 is accepting a check for $30,000: This Veterans Treatment Court Grant will provide veterans; and veteran dependents in Williamson County with Veterans Treatment Court Services.

Burnet County Vetride is accepting a check for $75,000: This General Assistance Grant will provide veterans; veteran dependents; and surviving spouses in Burnet, Lampasas and Llano Counties with Transportation Programs and Services.
Cuidado familiar de ancianos is accepting a check for $100,000: This General Assistance Grant will provide veterans in Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Brazos, Burnet, Caldwell, Lee, Travis, and Williamson Counties with Homeless Veterans Support Services.
Centro Rock, Ride on para niños is accepting a check for $100,000: This Veterans Mental Health Grant will provide veterans; veteran dependents; and surviving spouses in Bastrop, Bell, Burnet, Coryell, Lampasas, Milam, Travis, and Williamson Counties with Clinical Counseling Services.

This includes 2 grants: A General Assistance Grant will provide veterans; and veteran dependents in Bastrop, Travis and Williamson Counties with Financial Assistance Services. Samaritan Center is accepting a check for $500,000: This Veterans Mental Health Grant will provide veterans; veteran dependents; and surviving spouses in 254 counties with Clinical Counseling Services.
The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Commissioners approved these grant awards in May as part of an overall grant program providing 139 grants, totaling over $31.47 million to over 120 organizations across Texas and estimated to serve more than 22,000 veterans.
Since 2009 through the current 2022-2023 grant cycle, over $234 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,100 FVA grants, serving an estimated 400,000 Texas veterans and their family members.
“We thank the members of the Texas Legislature for creating this grant program in 2009, and their continued support of all Texas veterans and their families,” said TVC Chairwoman and Navy veteran Laura Koerner.
The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance. The TVC awards grants in five categories: General Assistance, Housing for Texas Heroes, Veterans Mental Health Grants, Veterans Treatment Courts and Veteran County Service Officers.
