On September 7, 2021, the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) presented over $7.6 million in grants to 27 organizations in north Texas for providing services to over 4,000 veterans.
The grant recipients and their services include:
General Assistance Grants
Achieve (Citizens Development Center) – one grant for $200,000 to fund employment support services for veterans in seven counties.
Hermanos mayores Hermanas mayores Estrella solitaria – one grant for $100,000 to fund supportive services for veteran dependents in 18 counties around Texas.
Ciudad de Fort Worth – one grant for $300,000 to fund financial assistance for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in Tarrant County.
Industrias de buena voluntad de Fort Worth – one grant for $300,000 to fund employment support services veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in six counties across north Texas.
NPower Inc. – one grant for $300,000 funding employment support services veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in 16 counties around Texas.
Presbyterian Night Shelter of Tarrant County – one grant for $50,000 to fund homeless veteran support services in Tarrant County.
Salvation Army – Grayson County – one grant for $100,000 to fund support services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in three counties.
Salvation Army – Waco – one grant for $200,000 to fund homeless veteran support services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in McLennan County.
SPAN, Inc. – one grant for a total of $20,000 funding transportation programs and services for veterans in Denton County.
Union Gospel Mission – Dallas – one grant for $200,000 to fund homeless veteran support services in Dallas County.

Equestria – one grant for $75,000 to fund clinical counseling services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in seven counties in north Texas.
Heart of Texas Region MHMR Center – one grant for $250,000 to fund clinical counseling services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in six counties.
Jake E’s Riding Round Up – one grant for $75,000 to fund clinical counseling services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in 10 counties in north and east Texas.

Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) grants
Veterans Treatment Courts are designed to provide justice involved veterans with the resources and assistance to get their life back on track. The court presents each with an individualized plan to complete over a period of several months. Regular court appearances are scheduled to monitor progress. If the veteran successfully completes the treatment, charges may be permanently removed.
City of Dallas Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) – one grant for $50,000 to fund VTC services in Dallas County.
Tarrant County VTC – one grant for $300,000 to fund VTC services in any of Texas’ 254 counties.
Organizations awarded multiple grant types
CLC, Inc. – two grants for a total of 800,000:
- one $500,000 General Assistance grant funding financial assistance for veterans and surviving spouses in any of Texas’ 254 counties.
- one $300,000 Housing for Texas Heroes grant funding home modification services for veterans and surviving spouses in 16 counties within the North Texas Region.
Condado de Collin – two grants for a total of $750,000:
- one $250,000 Mental Health grant funding clinical counseling services for veterans across Texas.
- one $500,000 Veterans Treatment Court grant funding VTC services in 5 counties in north Texas.
Condado de Dallas – two grants for a total of $600,000:
- one $100,000 Mental Health grant funding clinical counseling services for veterans and dependents in Dallas County.
- one $500,000 Veterans Treatment Court grant to provide VTC in Dallas County.
Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County two grants for a total of $500,000:
- one $300,000 General Assistance grant funding support services for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in Tarrant County.
- one $200,000 Housing for Texas Heroes grant to provide home modification for veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses in Tarrant County.
Pecan Valley MHMR – two grants totaling $600,000:
- one $300,000 General Assistance grant providing financial assistance to veterans in six counties.
- one $300,000 Mental Health grant funding clinical counseling services for veterans and dependents in six counties.
Voluntarios de América Texas – two grants for a total of $400,000:
- one $200,000 Mental Health grant providing clinical counseling services for veterans in six north Texas counties.
- one $200,000 General Assistance grant to fund financial assistance for veterans across 5 counties within the Gulf Coast Region.
The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Commissioners approved these grant awards in May as part of an overall grant program providing 147 grants to organizations across Texas. Grants totaling $33.4 million for 2021-2022 will serve an estimated 30,000 veterans.
Since 2009 through the 2020-2021 grant cycle, $168 million in grant funding has been awarded through 820 FVA grants and served more than 350,000 Texas veterans and their families.
The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance. The TVC awards grants in five categories: General Assistance, Housing for Texas Heroes, Veterans Mental Health Grants, Veterans Treatment Courts and Veteran County Service Officers.
