Marine veteran Harry and his 19-month-old Golden Labrador Retriever, Skipper, are among the most recent graduates of Patriot PAWS Service Dogs, based in Rockwall, TX. Patriot Paws specializes in training and providing service dogs for veterans experiencing mobility disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and/or Post-Traumatic Stress.
Skipper is Harry’s second service dog. Nearly 13 years ago, Harry became one of the first veterans to receive a service dog from Patriot PAWS. As a Vietnam veteran, Harry understands firsthand the profound impact a service dog can have on his life. “The care they put into matching you with the right dog is unbelievable,” Harry says, reflecting on his experience.
Today, Harry enjoys the freedom Skipper has brought into his life, whether it’s taking rides in his golf cart or visiting his local American Legion in Rockport. “Skipper and I share a bond that grows stronger every day,” Harry adds.
Harry is particularly grateful to Bonnie Hoard, the Veteran Trainer at Patriot PAWS, for her dedication and attention to helping veterans regain their independence. Bonnie, a Navy veteran herself, has played an essential role in Harry’s journey.
