Marine Corps veteran Jim Moniz visited the Waco American Job Center (AJC) on June 25, 2024 seeking employment assistance. Once identified by the AJC staff as eligible for TVC Veterans Employment Services, the veteran secured an appointment with TVC Veteran Career Advisor and Air Force veteran Paul Bilunas. Together, they identified Moniz’s barriers to employment, including his disability, and agreed to an Individual Employment Plan (IEP).
“In learning of the veteran’s dire need for food, rent and utility assistance, Paul utilized his community partnerships to perform multiple warm hand-offs to local organizations. One of these was Caritas Veterans Program, which resolved most of the veteran’s needs,” said Tony Ramirez, TVC Employment Services Central Texas District Manager and Air Force veteran. “As the veterans’ most immediate needs were tackled, Paul worked with him on his IEP objectives; creating a resume, labor market Information, interviewing and job searching skills.”
Once job ready, the veteran attended a job fair, obtained multiple interviews and secured a job with Integ Digital and Offset Printing on the Baylor University campus . Moniz got the job on July 24, just a month after first walking into the Waco AJC.
After becoming employed, Moniz shared with Bilunas that he “walked into the AJC in a bad place in his life”, but with Bilunas’s help, he was able to “turn his life around.”
