Make sure your claim is being handled by a VA accredited representative,” advises Army veteran Keeyawnia “K.C.” Hawkins, Director of Bell County Veteran Services and County Veteran Service Officer.
An accredited VSO herself, “VA Accreditation Number: 22353,” she assists veterans with obtaining the benefits they’ve earned from the VA and other state and local agencies. Further, she seeks to help strengthen the veteran community by partnering with area organizations such as Bring Everyone In the Zone “Which provides a wonderful peer to peer service,” said Hawkins.
Already working out of two offices, one in Killeen and the other in Belton, Hawkins currently provides services through virtual and remote methods, via Zoom or over the phone due to COVID-19. When allowable within health precautions, Hawkins extends her assistance even further with outreach to a variety of locations such as the Hire our Hero’s program on Fort Hood, Fort Hood USO, Central Texas Counsel of Governments, Central Texas College, and Communities in Schools.

The award recognized veterans nominated for their selfless service to the Central Texas community and our country. Receiving this award was a reminder that even though I do my job behind the scenes, my work is seen by others throughout my county.”
